671 is the 3rd “Class 11” to arrive on site at Riversway – arriving as sister loco 663 departed for a new life in Devon. The loco arrived on 16th July 2005.
On the 25/6/05 green 690 was present which arrived on the 21/12/2004, and left for industrial use at PD Ports whilst in the care of RMS Locotec. The other Dutch 08 present was all over grey 663 which arrived 12th May 2005 and after slight attention went the Dartmoor Rly on the 19th July 2005, and then to NRM Shildon named ANNETTE in yellow/grey NS livery. (663 has now returned to RSR – 2012)
671 is of significant importance, as prior to equipping with radio control this locomotive was formerly numbered 601 – the first of the 600 class locomotives. The first ten 600 class locomotives were the only ones entirely built at English Electric’s Dick Kerr Works, Preston. 671 retains it’s radio control equipment and it is intended to update and re-commission this system in due course. The loco’s livery was recently refreshed, and it stands in the museum, awaiting the attention which may return it to service.
