Railway Exploration Centre Gets The Green Light From Big Lottery Fund Grant

Ribble Steam Railway’s dream of an Exploration Centre has been made possible after a £10K grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

The grant will help create a super imaginative space, with a window above our large railway collection, at the Heritage Railway and Museum on Preston Docklands. The Exploration Centre will offer a bird’s eye view, for all ages, to experience one of the largest collections of Industrial Locomotives in the UK. It will help transform the underused mezzanine floor into a multi-use ‘hands on’ educational space.

As well as being a room with a view, the Exploration Centre will provide a place for all visitors, the local community and volunteers to come together to learn, have fun, unwind and flourish.

The granting of this funding means that Ribble Steam Railway can both deliver a much improved educational package and better access to everyone, be they young, old or disadvantaged. We hope it will be a place for volunteers, community groups and placement students to come together to learn new skills and share their experiences now and in the future.” Dave Watkins (Chairman)
