New Book Published detailing the history of Furness Railway No.20
“Furness Railway Locomotive No.20 – The Story so far” has been written by FRT Chairman Tim Owen, and has recently been published and is now available for sale from the Ribble Steam Railway shop.
The book covers the life of Furness Railway No. 20 from its 7 years with the Furness Railway, 90 years with the Barrow Iron and Steel Works, 23 years as a playground ornament in a Barrow school playground, its restoration and subsequent operation over the last 26 years. The latter includes television fame and appearances in two feature films. It is currently Britain’s oldest operational standard gauge steam locomotive.
If you’re in the market for a signed copy, the author will be signing copies in the museum on 12th July 2025 – a day when the locomotive itself is due to be hauling our passenger service, so why not combine the two?
The book is priced at just £6.00, with proceeds directly supporting the Furness Railway Trust.
