Come and join us in the lovingly restored Great Eastern Railway Royal Saloon, built in 1898. The carriage was specifically built for Princess Alexandra, wife of the future King Edward VII.
Princess Alexandra’s Royal Saloon
We serve refreshments on board throughout the day between 11am and 3pm. In the morning we serve coffee and cake. At lunchtime we serve a Ploughman’s Lunch with a beer or a glass of white wine (non alcoholic alternative also available). In the afternoon we serve Alison’s Cream Tea or Alison’s Afternoon Tea. You can also add a glass of prosecco for an extra special treat.

Afternoon Tea in the Royal Saloon
Join us for two return trips on the Ribble Steam Railway whilst enjoying an Afternoon Tea. You will be served a selection of sandwiches (usually ham and cheese), cream and jam scones, cup cakes and trifle, along with hot drinks. You can also include a glass of Prosecco for the adults on arrival.
The Afternoon Tea is not recommended for children under 8 years old.

Join us for one return trip on the Ribble Steam Railway whilst enjoying a traditional Cream Tea. You will be served scones with jam and cream and hot drinks at your table. You can also include a glass of Prosecco for the adults on arrival.
The Cream Tea is not recommended for children under 8 years old.

Space is limited to only 16 guests per train so early booking is advisable.
Unfortunately due its age and method of construction, we are sorry but the Royal Saloon is not accessible to wheelchair users. Due to limitations in the Royal Saloon kitchen, we regret we are unable to cater for special dietary requirement or guarantee that food has been prepared in a nut free environment.
Tickets for Coffee & Cake, Ploughmans Lunch, Cream Tea and Afternoon Tea are only available on line. Please follow the relevant link below to purchase these.
Private Hire
The Royal Saloon is also available for private hire. It can be attached to the front of the train on any of our standard operating days (except Wednesdays in August or Special Event days) for your exclusive use. The saloon can accommodate up to 16 people, ideal for a group / club meeting, a special celebration or a birthday treat. We can offer a variety of refreshments including Coffee & Cake, Ploughman’s Lunch, Afternoon Tea or Traditional Cream Tea.
