50th Anniversary of Steamport Southport Event
We have recently been asked by a new member as to whether there’s any documents relating to the development of Ribble Steam Railway, and the answer is that of course there are many!
I put together a new page on this site to give a brief history of the establishment of the railway – and in doing so, found reference to the fact that the founding organisation – Steamport Southport opened it’s doors on Spring Bank Holiday in 1974 -so as we approach that 50th anniversary, we thought we should mark this occasion.
If you were a member of Steamport Southport – Life Members continue to enjoy free admission to Ribble Steam Railway – but for this event only, even if your annual membership of Steamport long expired, but you’d like to visit, we’ll offer the usual membership admission rate of £2.50 if you bring along an old membership card for Steamport or Southport Railway Centre
If you have memories, images or videos to share, please do contact us so we can showcase as much as possible, not only to current and former members, but also today’s visitors, still enjoying the sights, sounds & smells of our local railway heritage
