We’re delighted to announced that on 18th September 2024, Barclay 1969/1929 returned to service after passing her final steam test following restoration.
The restoration is one which has been completed at pace by Community Care Boiler Services, only starting in late 2023, culminating with a rapid re-assembly during August & September following the initial boiler hydraulic test.
The opportunity was taken to undertake some proving runs by assisting with a large tanker shunt required by Ribble Rail to re-order a number of the 100ton VTG units in readiness for later despatch, where the locomotive performed admirably.
Previous visitors may have seen the 12″ Barclay on display on our museum for many years in black lined livery – however, she now wears a refreshed paint scheme to reflect the early days of her preservation at Steamtown Carnforth (seen below in 1971)
JN Derbyshire is rostered to work both days of our forthcoming Steam Gala on 28th & 29th September
