Margaret is a diesel-mechanical locomotive built by Hudswell Clarke in 1956 to a similar design as “Mighty Atom”, although on a larger scale.
The loco was delivered new to British Petroleum on the Isle of Grain in Kent in October 1956 and worked there until May 1960 when it made its way to Denbigshire to work for Limestone Products. Eight years later the loco made it’s way to Cheshire to work for W.J Lee – and then just three years on, in 1971 it was sent to Walsh Transport Services in Darwen, Lancashire, for storage.
In 1987, the loco moved on to Fleetwood Loco Centre, and before it’s move to Riversway, had a significant amount of work carried out to it’s engine and gearbox. The loco’s chassis is complete, but the main engine covers are not currently in situ, leaving the loco open to the elements, however a recent change of ownership should see the loco fully re-assembled, and a decision on whether to restore it to full working service will be made.
